Community.
Effective learning, working, and collaborating online for groups, teams, and individuals begins with creating and nurturing inviting, powerful Web communities. One example: PotomacPlanet is the project lead for the Technology for Teaching grant initiative, sponsored by HP of Palo Alto, California. This totally online project delivers effective professional development for teams of K-12 teachers aimed at developing new technology skills in and out of the classroom. Teams, individuals, and larger groups participate in a broad spectrum of activities online, sharing and interacting and collaborating.
The program pairs participants with mentors, who interact and guide users through professional development activities all within an active online learning community. Users build their skills as they exchange experiences, ideas, and questions, and use data to measure the impact of their teams' work on their teaching as well as on the learning and experience of their students. PotomacPlanet has partnered in this effort with International Society for Technology in Education.
